What about a movie?

We all know about the musical. Apparently, it wasn't as successful as they thought it would be. I knew a guy who auditioned for the role of Marius, and even he said he thought it wasn't quite as good as it could have been. But what about a movie? Would you like to see one made? And the actors, which would you choose? The book is quite long, twice as long as IWTV, many parts would have to be cut out, so what would you leave out? I have to say, I would have a very hard time trying to decide what ...

It seems that Anne Rice may plan to write one last book, saying "It will be a story that I need to tell."

Since there seems to be quite a lot of discussion regarding the "Queen of the Damned" movie, whether it's of the actor choices, etc. there clearly are different views so I thought perhaps this is a good place to discuss it rather than the IWTV thread.

Perhaps I should start then.

I first watched the movie before reading the books, so quite naturally, I saw it as a seperate peice to begin with. As a movie on it's own, I think it is pretty good and even enjoyed watching the bloopers. ...

The book or the movie?

I'm interested in how you view the plot of the movie in relation to the book. Did actors did a good job playing their parts? Should the movie have followed the storyline of the book or is it better this way?

I think they couldn't have found better actors to play the part of Lestat and Louis. Alright, maybe even Claudia. The only thing I couldn't get my head around is getting Antonio Banderas for Armand...They never did seem to hit the spot with Armand's actor, here or in QOTD, I very much ...

So...what did you think of the book in total?

I'm sorry to say, but...I didn't like it half as much as the two preceeding it. It was long and for the most part, it was somewhat dull...I honestly didn't like reading about the Fang Gang and Baby Jenks, for one. Even more about Jesse. Especially the latter made the book seem very unrealistic (apart from the fact of it being about vampires). Pandora...well, it wasn't bad but it wasn't a cracking read either. The Twins...again, the same. All in all, I can't really say much about this book myself, ...

Quinn's Story

How did you find Quinn's story... the fact that he decided to go back to Blackwood Manor and live among his loved ones? I find him very natural which is quite uncommon between these characters. His youth makes him so sincere...

I, for one, love this character... I actually read his story with interest even if it isn't so fascinating at times.

Was there a particular scene you liked?

What did you think of this tale, and the way it was told? I personally felt that whilst our nord friend "Thorne" was quite unnecessary, he also added an interesting twist to the entire tale, as well as some kind of a conclusion to it.

His story seems something out of a classic gothic novel... no modernism in it at all. It's like the story itself is just intending to shock and nothing more. The change of the perspective, the narrator... the scenary make it worth reading but the subject seems just unreal... covered with the well-known mist of standard novels. You might say it's boring but something makes you keep reading... and that is. proably, the remarkable skill of the writer.

Hard to imagine, but was there anything you didn't like about the book? I admit, there were chapters that weren't quite as interesting read as the rest...The very first chapter, actually. It was a bit...well, it was human. a bit ordinary. Parts about Les Innocentes didn't exactly tingle my imagination much either...but I did so love chapters about Lelio. The whole book tells an image of a completely different Lestat that makes you think what on earth has he been doing with Louis to make him so ...

I feel that I must confess something about the two of them... it came as a bit of a shock that they are so old... I hadn't expected this. I believed the ones that appear until "The Vampire Armand" are the oldest but if my presumption is correct, Arion was created before Marius... is that right?
